Volunteers: The Heart of Our Mission

Our volunteers’ passion and dedication are invaluable to us. They ensure a fantastic visitor experience while fostering a culture of inclusivity, creativity, learning, and fun. Every year, volunteers donate millions of hours to the heritage sector, making our nation’s history and culture accessible to all.

As the Loughborough Bellfoundry enters the next stage of its illustrious history, our team is hard at work developing a new programme of events and activities. We would be delighted to welcome you to our volunteering family.

FAQs about volunteering

What is the age limit for volunteering?

We do not currently accept volunteers under the age of 16 for safeguarding reasons, unless by special arrangement. There is no upper age limit for volunteers!

How long would I have to volunteer for?

This depends on your role. Tour Guides and Tour Assistants will be expected to be on site for around 2 hours to prepare for the tour and the tour itself. Front of house volunteers will be expected to dedicate a morning, an afternoon, or a full day in the Museum which is open from 10am-4pm. Other volunteers can dedicate whatever time they can!

How much time will I be expected to give to volunteering?

If you volunteer at the Bellfoundry, we recommend that you support us at least once a month, if you can. The time you spend supporting us during this time is up to you.

Do I need to be qualified?

No qualifications are required to volunteer with us!

Do I need to wear a uniform/costume?

Our customer-facing volunteers are provided with t-shirts, sweatshirts, or fleeces as part of their uniform. All volunteers will be provided with a lanyard to identify themselves whilst on site.Â
