Heritage Open Days 2022 – Have a go at bellringing!

Come peek inside the industrial past with a visit to the Loughborough Bellfoundry and even have a go at bellringing for yourself! Built in 1859 and home to historic bellfounders John Taylor & Company—who have been making bells since the late 18th century—you’ll find nothing quite like the authenticity of the bellfoundry. Our Victorian architecture and ancient craft will transport you, so you’ll walk away wanting more. Not only that, but you’ll also have chance to try your hand at one of Britain’s most traditional art forms with a visit up our belltower for an introductory bellringing lesson.

For this year’s Heritage Open Days, we’re offering a number of pre-bookable two-hour slots. Within your slot, you’ll go behind the scenes at the bellfoundry, have the chance to learn more about our National Lottery Heritage Fund restoration project, and be treated to a beginner bellringing lesson.

To book your FREE slot at one of the open days, head to the calendar at the bottom of this page to select the places required along with the time and date you would like.

The slots available are as follows:
Friday, 9th September, 10 am – 12 midday
Friday, 9th September, 1 pm – 3 pm

You will receive a PDF with your booking containing essential information about visiting us. We kindly also ask visitors to note the following about this event:

These slots are for individuals who have never tried bell ringing before or those with very little experience of ringing!(If you are an experienced ringer who is interested in ringing in the foundry tower, please contact John Taylor and Company direct.)

To tour the bellfoundry, all visitors are required to wear flat, closed shoes.

This event is only suitable for children aged 9 and above. If you have any further queries about this event or the booking process, please contact us direct on info@loughboroughbellfoundry.org or telephone 01509 638 500.

We not only want to offer an insight into our fascinating building, but we also want to highlight the art of bellringing and why it is so important. You will experience a detailed visit to the site along with the chance to learn a new hobby, so we hope to see you there!

The event is finished.
